The themes of a story are concepts presented by it.
What a theme doesEdit
For example, Doctor Strange (movie, 2017) presents the theme of time. The story hinges on time travel and time manipulation. The story's narrative also weaves in the theme of time through medians such as the protagonist's collection of watches. Another protagonist, named the Ancient One, also speaks about time throughout the movie:
- "Death is what gives life meaning. To know your days are numbered. Your time is short. You'd think after all this time, I'd be ready. But look at me. Stretching one moment out into a thousand... just so that I can watch the snow. " (the idea of accepting mortality is a powerful message in life)
- "You wonder what I see in your future? Possibility."
This shows that the theme of the story can be used to further the plot of a story, and can also be used to present a message to the audience. In addition, small details presenting the theme, even they do not have any importance to the plot, can create harmony in your story.
